Privacy Policy — WeatherQ

WeatherQ is a mobile application developed and operated by Digital Development Pioneers ("DDP", "we", "our", or "the company") — a digital agency based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (devpioneers.sa). WeatherQ shows daily weather information combined with an inspirational quote. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Data We Collect

📍 Location Used locally only

When you grant location permission, the app uses your device's GPS coordinates solely to fetch weather data from the Open-Meteo API. We never store, log, or transmit your location to our own servers. Coordinates are sent directly from your device to Open-Meteo.

⚙️ App Preferences On-device only

Settings you choose (temperature unit, quote language, notification time) are stored only on your device using AsyncStorage. They are never uploaded to any server.

📸 Photo Library On-device only

If you choose to save a weather card, the app writes the image to your device's photo library. We do not read, copy, or upload any existing photos.

📣 Push Notifications On-device only

Daily notifications are scheduled locally on your device. No notification content is sent to or processed by our servers.

2. Third-Party Services

WeatherQ uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

Open-Meteo — weather data API. Receives your GPS coordinates to return weather. No account required. No personal data stored. open-meteo.com/en/terms
ZenQuotes API — inspirational quotes (English). No personal data sent. zenquotes.io
Google AdMob — serves ads to support the free app. AdMob may collect your advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) and usage data to serve relevant ads. On iOS you will be asked for permission before any tracking occurs (App Tracking Transparency). You can opt out at any time in your device settings. policies.google.com/privacy
Expo / EAS — build and update infrastructure. No personal user data is collected by Expo at runtime. expo.dev/privacy

3. Advertising & Tracking (iOS — ATT)

On iOS 14 and later, we request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission before allowing AdMob to track activity across apps. If you decline, AdMob will serve non-personalised ads and no cross-app tracking will occur.

4. Data Retention

WeatherQ does not operate any servers or databases. All app data (preferences, cached weather, cached quotes) lives only on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

5. Children's Privacy

WeatherQ is rated for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us.

6. Your Rights

Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is nothing to request, export, or delete. You can remove all locally stored app data by uninstalling WeatherQ from your device.

For EU/EEA users (GDPR): your rights under GDPR apply to data processed by our third-party partners (Google AdMob). Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for instructions on exercising those rights.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
